Anna Gormezano ( a.k.a. AGM) is a visual artist, interested in architecture, movement, written and unwritten languages. Drawing based, their work explores themes of illusion, structure accumulation, poetry, form, space and memory, with supporting work consisting of writing, photography and material experimentation.
Anna’s drawings are often created with archive ink on thick watercolour paper and found paper-based materials, working mainly in black and white and monochromatic tones. Taking a variation of forms, the drawings sometimes depict a swelling mass filling an invisible frame, sometimes the forms are more considered, compact, seemingly sitting on the page with an expanse of space around them, self contained. At other times the drawings become worlds of their own, spreading surging fibrous tendrils across the flat surface, suggesting billows of glinting fabrics, sending outward, inward, deconstructing and reconstructing themselves in the same moment.
Over the past decade, Anna has balanced making art with her role as a creative consultant through FromNow.studio, working closely with other artists and creative professionals in creative and artistic development in Scotland and wider UK.
More recent works build on work rooted in written language, human rhythms and mark making, pursuing a long term interest in producing more physical works. Poetry and writing guiding the imagery, creating an ebb and flow between mediums allowing exploration of the studio process, working o in a range of mediums, from pend drawn fields of gestural abstraction, to collecting and assembling found objects and imagery to create more playful, surrealist compositions.
