Led by curiosity, Kit is an award winning photographic artist who enjoys the physical tangibility of analogue and cameraless photography as well as digital. The natural world is her constant inspiration and she often celebrates the smallest things not easily seen and therefore often overlooked but vital within ecosystems.
Interested in the intersection of art and science and having enjoyed looking closely at the natural world through macro photography for years, Kit has been exploring photography with microscopes during her recent MFA in Art, Science & Visual Thinking. This expanded her practice into printmaking, moving image, sculpture, glass and sound. Mosses, seaweeds, soil and the microorganisms living in and amongst these ecosystems are part of her current research and exploration, alongside exploring a more sustainable photographic practice.
Kit enjoys experimentation. This has led to phytograms being made on microscope film and cyanotypes on unwanted microscope slides. It has also resulted in trying to capture the overlapping contingencies of time and place through photography. This might result in prints being made at the seashore, through the action of the tide on light sensitive paper on in a pond at night using old darkroom papers.
Teaching and participatory work are at the heart of Kit’s practice and she thrives on collaboration.
